Francis Ford Coppola Rubicon Estate

Formerly known as the Niebaum Coppola Estate winery, the Rubicon Estate was recently renamed after owner Francis Ford Coppola reunited all of the estate's original vineyards. A true wine connoisseur at heart, the filmmaker bought the Rutherford, Calif., property in 1975 while looking for a new summer house for his family. (It was originally founded in 1880 by sea captain Gustave Neibaum.) Since then, the vineyard has grown under the Oscar-winning director's care, and features several levels of membership for wine buyers and a variety of daily tours, tastings and special events for visitors.

Fess Parker: The Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard

Covering 714 acres on four vineyards in Santa Barbara County, Fess Parker's winery and vineyard got a jolt of publicity thanks to the 2004 movie 'Sideways,' which was filmed on the premises. Parker, best known for portraying Davy Crockett on the big screen and Daniel Boone on the small screen in the 1950s and 1960s, first purchased his land in 1987, and continues to develop it; in 1998, he bought a hotel minutes from his winery and re-christened it Fess Parker's Wine Country Inn & Spa.

Gerard Depardieu: Chateau de Tigne

French icon Gerard Depardieu loves wine so much, he describes himself as an "acteur-vigneron"—or actor-winemaker—on his passport and has a history of knocking back four or five bottles of red wine a day. A wine producer since the early 1980s, the actor tended his vines in the Loire, Bordeaux and the Languedoc regions of France, and now has plots all over the world, including Algeria, Argentina, Morocco, Spain, Sicily, and even the U.S. A highly profitable venture, Depardieu's vineyard in Anjou alone produces one million bottles a year

The Smothers Brothers: Remick Ridge

Originally called the Smothers Brothers Winery, comedian Tommy Smothers changed the name of his estate to Remick Ridge (after his grandfather) to be taken more seriously by fellow wine connoisseurs. Founded in 1977, the estate currently has 50 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and produces 500 cases of 10 percent varietal, unfiltered and unrefined wine every year. The grapes are also certified organic—a designation that took four years to secure. Visitors can sample Smothers' wines at the Wine Room, a tasting room in Kenwood that Smothers built in 1985 and that now also houses six other Sonoma Valley winery samplers.

Greg Norman: Greg Norman Estates Wine

Professional golfer Greg Norman first fell in love with wine while playing tournaments in Europe in the '70s, but it wasn't until the '90s that he linked up with winemakers from Beringer Blass to launch Greg Norman Estates. Though the Australian golfer-cum-businessman doesn't own the vineyards that produce his wine, he is very hands-on during the selection process and insists on approving everything from tastings to the fonts on the labels.

Being a champion on the ice wasn't enough for Peggy Fleming. The Olympic gold medalist also wanted to leave her mark on the ground, in the soil—and opened a small Chardonnay vineyard in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains with her husband in 1999. Planting more than 650 vines on a one-acre space, Fleming and Jenkins have since expanded their business, and recently opened a tasting room in Los Gatos, Calif. Fleming, a breast cancer survivor, also donates $2 from every bottle sold of her Victories Rose to cancer causes.

Ernie Els: Ernie Els Wines

Forced to try wine for the first time by wife Liesl, South African golfer Ernie Els quickly developed an appreciation. He teamed with family friend (and winemaker) Jean Engelbrecht to establish the Engelbrecht Els Vineyards in 1999; the first vintage of the Ernie Els wines was released in 2000. Located in South Africa's Stellenbosch, the golfing great's 72-hectare estate features a tasting bar overlooking the vineyards as well as the Guardian Peak Winery and Restaurant, which is adjacent to the Els estate.
