Snake Massage

While it’s not the ideal stress reliever for the faint of heart, knotted muscles slither away following a snake massage performed in Northern Israel by therapist Ada Barak at her eponymous spa. For about $70, she’ll sic her six non-venomous serpents on clients’ aching muscles. As the snakes slip and slide down the spine, tension supposedly slithers away.

Perscentoelogy

With the help of toe reading expert Marie Bernat, spa-goers at various Phoenix-area spas can kick off their shoes… and get a life analysis with perscentoelogy. According to Bernat, toes are known to be the window into one’s unconscious. “During the sessions, people laugh because they are surprised that I can tell more about themselves in 10 minutes than people who have known them their whole life,” says Bernat. “They are always surprised at the secrets their toes tell.”

Nightingale Dropping Facial

Though Steven Spielberg’s big-screen geisha failed to mention this in her memoirs, Kabuki actors and geisha in Japan have been smearing their faces with enzyme-filled nightingale excrement for years to keep their complexions clear, white and smooth. Taking a hint from these lovely faced lads and lasses, Diamond Spa at Diamond Hawaii Resort & Spa in Maui begins all featured facials with a coating of dehydrated (and scent-free) nightingale excrement, which apparently provides spa-goers with flawless skin.

Cupping

Toxin-busting suction makes Cupping at Hashani Spa at JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, Ariz., a favorite for spa-goers looking to detox. Gwyneth Paltrow’s treatment of choice helps boost circulation and promotes healing. “The clients that have tried it say the relaxation is amazing, their bodies feel energized while their mind is relaxed, and they feel the benefits for many days following the service,” says spa manager Marissa Sokolowski.

Beer Therapy

Relaxation is on tap for spa-goers who take a heavenly hops soak at the spa found at the Chodovar Family brewery in Chodova Plana, Czech Republic. Guests can take a dip in a dark beer bath while downing a pint. Along with the obvious shot of liquid happiness, the bath is said to increase circulation and aid in detoxification. The glass of non-pasteurized Rock Lager that spa-goers tip back also includes an active yeast culture that supposedly does wonders for the digestive system. Bottoms up!

Cactus Massage

Relaxation is the point of the Hakali Massage at Apuane Spa at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita (Punta Mita, Mexico). The treatment provides a distinctly Mexican flair using spine-free cactus paddles to massage in a blend of nopal, a prickly pear cactus, and pulque, an alcohol made from the agave plant and a predecessor to modern-day tequila.

Aura-Soma Color Reading

Spa-goers at Mii amo (Sedona, Ariz.), color their way to happiness with the Aura-Soma Color Reading treatment. After perusing a collection of colorful bottled liquids, clients then spend a session with a therapist who interprets their choices and wraps up the experience with a healing massage. “Your color preferences, such as your favorite color and the colors you like next to each other are all expressions of the inner self,” says therapist Bhakta Ruttiger. “Equilibrium color combinations provide a medium for the soul to express itself and touch the underlying themes of your life in a way that goes beyond language.”
