Underground Railroad Trail; Mobile, Ala. to Owen Sound, Ontario

This 2,028-mile historic road ride traces the route that many slaves followed to freedom in the Civil War era.  Jim Sayer, Executive Director of the Adventure Cycling Association, says, "You truly get the feeling for the history of race relations in North America along this route."  Highlights include views of tobacco farms, riverboats, river crossings and bridges, and visits to museums, visitor centers, homes, and churches, many with interpretive details of their history.  Sayer adds, "The trail takes you from the lowland swamps around the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes and the rolling topography of Ontario."
