Thank local explorer Lawson Burrows for spending three years searching the shores of Lake Te Anau, looking for the entrance to the caves, which he found in 1948. He bravely pushed himself underwater and surfaced in a cavern of glowworms—all glimmering. “A weird place, but not at all frightening,” he said. Real Journeys is the only operator hosting this excursion, which celebratesthe larval stage in the life of an insect called the fungus gnat.
