Launching from its mother ship at 2,500 to 3,000 miles per hour (more than three times the speed of sound), Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShip Two will take passengers to 360,000 feet — 32,000 feet higher than the “space border” that qualifies them as astronauts under the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale standard. Virgin Galactic expects to start operating with one flight a week, increasing to one flight a day, according to Commercial Director Stephen Attenborough. The spaceship should be completed in 2009 and will then go through 18 months to two years of testing.
Price: $200,000
