Cimitero degli Inglesi (Protestant Cemetery)
When this plot of green was nestled up against the city's medieval walls, it was indeed a quiet, shady, and reflective spot. When those walls were demolished in the late 19th century and the boulevard Viale put in their place, it became a traffic circle instead. We can only hope that frail and gentle Elizabeth Barrett Browning can block out the noise from her tomb off the left of the main path. The
sepulcher was designed by her husband and fellow poet Robert Browning after her death in Florence in 1861.
