WEBSITE: www.allhallowsbythetower.org.uk
This fascinating church, which houses a brass-rubbing center, is located next door to the Tower of London. It features a crypt museum, Roman remains, and traces of early London, including a Saxon arch predating the Tower. Samuel Pepys, the famed diarist, climbed the spire of the church to watch the raging fire of London in 1666. In 1644, William Penn was baptized here, and in 1797, John Quincy Adams was married here. Bombs destroyed the church in 1940, leaving only the tower and walls standing. The church was rebuilt from 1949 to 1958. See "'The City' Attractions" map.
