City Hall
On the South Bank of the Thames, adjacent to Tower Bridge, the mayor of London and the London Assembly got a new home in 2002. A gleaming, 10-story egg-shaped steel-and-glass structure, it was dedicated by Her Majesty. The new home for city government has become London's latest -- some say, most controversial -- landmark. Half of City Hall is open to the public and the views from its rooftop gallery are worth the trek over to the South Bank. An exhibition space highlights changing cultural exhibits, and there is also a cafe on-site.
