This casino-hotel complex is forever changing, adding, renovating, and expanding. There are six cavernous gambling rooms. Foxwoods is a member of the
World Poker Tour and home to the World Poker Finals, held in a room with 100 tables. The 3,600-seat
Bingo Hall is one of the largest in the world, and the high-tech horse parlor is a dazzler. All the other usual methods of depleting wallets are at hand as well -- blackjack, bingo, keno, craps, baccarat, roulette, and money wheels. There are 7,200 slot machines. Some 40,000 people come through the doors every day. In addition to the gaming, the resort is home to restaurants, high-end boutiques, and three hotels. A fourth, the
MGM Grand at Foxwoods, was set to open in May 2008 as part of $700-million (!) development project that will include even more gaming venues, restaurants, and convention space. There's an
entertainment center -- great for kids -- with a virtual-reality MaxFlight FS2000 Jet simulator and 140 video games. The
Fox Theatre brings in acts like comedians Bob Saget and Don Rickles, and singers Vanessa Williams and Jackson Browne, and there is a
Hard Rock Cafe on-site. In the Grand Pequot Tower hotel, a
salon offers haircuts, facials, and a full menu of nail care. See "Where to Dine," below, for restaurant options. The resort opened the on-site
Lake of Isles Golf Courses in 2005. No one is allowed to forget that this whole eye-popping affair is owned and operated by Native Americans. A signature display is
The Rainmaker, a glass statue of an archer shooting an arrow into the air. Prominently placed around the main buildings are larger-than-life sculptures depicting Amerindians by artists of Chiricahua and Chippewa descent.
