This former riverside landfill is now the best exhibition space for large-scale outdoor sculpture in the city. No velvet ropes and motion sensors here -- interaction with the artwork is encouraged. It's well worth a look, especially on a lovely day, and has a spectacular view of Roosevelt Island and the East Side of Manhattan. Check the website for the current exhibition schedule -- or just let yourself be happily surprised. The park also offers outdoor movie screenings and free tai chi and yoga classes in the summer.
