A great oddity amidst all the modern skyscrapers of Pudong, this traditional Chinese courtyard mansion, located at the southeast corner of the Lujiazui Green, was the residence of a wealthy merchant named Chen Guichun. Originally built in 1917, this red-and-black brick house with ornately carved windows, doors, and balustrades was completely rebuilt in the late 1990s and today is a museum chronicling the rapid development of Pudong. Displays, ranging from traditional looms and tools used by local farmers to photographs and models of the modern metropolis, are scant and annotated in Chinese only, but the house is lovely and worth a 15-minute round if you're in the area.
