This unique museum is one of my favorites and is well worth a visit if you haven't been to a Japanese home. It served as the residence and studio of sculptor Asakura Fumio (1883-1964), famous for his statues of statesmen, women, and cats, many of which are on display here. The house, which combines modern and traditional architecture, wraps around an inner courtyard pond fed by a natural spring, and contains some furniture and antiques in its many tatami rooms, including a beautiful library, a tearoom, and a room for enjoying the morning sun. There's even a rooftop garden. Since you won't want to rush, plan on spending 30 to 45 minutes here.
