Sugarbush is a fine intermediate-to-advanced ski resort comprising two ski mountains linked by a 2-mile, 10-minute high-speed chairlift that crosses three ridges. (A shuttle bus offers a warmer way to traverse the mountains.) The number of high-speed lifts (four) and excellent snowmaking capabilities make this a desirable destination for serious skiers. While an improved Sugarbush has generated some buzz since large-scale improvements began in the mid-1990s, it remains a low-key area with great intermediate cruising runs on the north slopes and some challenging, old-fashioned expert slopes on Castlerock. Sugarbush is a good choice if you find the sprawl of Killington overwhelming but don't want to sacrifice great skiing for a quieter and more intimate resort.
