Florence’s “old bridge” probably dates from 1354, after an earlier bridge was swept away in a flood, but the romance of the Ponte Vecchio is timeless. The medieval stone bridge spans the Arno River at its narrowest point as it runs through Florence’s historic core, and tiny shops (particularly jewelers) still line the top of its twin arches. Its the only bridge in Florence that Nazi troops didn’t blow up.
