Dance offers a window on local cultures around the world. The violent hand claps and foot stomps of flamenco are sometimes strong enough to shake the beads from the dancer's hair. It's a testament to the incredible verve that is required to perform this beautiful dance. Plenty of cities and towns in Spain claim to have the most passionate and talented dancers, but it is well known that Seville is the true home of flamenco. There are a number of excellent schools in the city, such as Taller Flamenco where visitors get a chance to learn the basic movements. If it seems too daunting, watching a performance in one of the many renowned venues is just as rewarding. Catch a show at El Arenal, where tickets for the nightly performance regularly sell out.
