Sensoji Temple, Tokyo, Japan

Legend has it that two brothers fished a statue of a Khannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy and happiness, out of the Sumida river in the year 628. The temple was built in her honor, and visitors flock here seeking favors from the goddess. The Japan Tourism Authority reports 30 million annual visitors to Sensoji.
