Best Golf Course
Stowe Mountain Club

Recently named one of the "Top Ten New Courses" by Golf Magazine. Created by renowned designer Bob Cupp, the club has breathtaking views of Mt. Mansfield, Spruce Peak and the Worcester Range. It was designed as an environmentally conscious project, and is surrounded by conservation land, so it's not unusual to find a moose or bear strolling along the course while you're playing. Stowe Country Club is also a great option down the road from the lodge. It's a public course with a driving range and putting green for practice.

Best Local Sporting Event
The Stowe Derby

Racers start at the top of Mt. Mansfield's Toll Road (a beginner alpine ski trail), and race 10 miles all the way down Stowe's Recreation Path until they get to the center of town, using a combination of downhill and cross-country skis.

Best Hiking
The Long Trail to the top of the chin on Mount Mansfield.

This trek will bring you to the highest point in Vermont and is well worth the challenge. From the top of the "chin" you can see into Canada and as far as Mount Washington in the distance. If you're looking for a shorter hike, the Long Trail also goes up to Sterling Pond, and the entire hike takes only about 2 hours. It's pretty steep, but it's quick, and at the top you'll find a beautiful tree-lined pond and the ski trails of Smuggler's Notch.

Best Place to go for A Run
Brush Hill road across from the Shaw's Supermarket in town.

Although this run is very challenging with demanding hills, the road has breathtaking views of Mount Mansfield as well as many other mountains as it passes a large cow farm, and horse stables. Stowe's 5.5 mile Recreation Path is also a must-do for any runner, walker, biker or rollerblader who visits town. It runs along the Mountain Road to the Stowe Village, and in addition to passing through some of the most beautiful scenery in town, it's also great for people watching.

Best Place To Catch A Sunset
By the enormous pool at Stowe Mountain Lodge

Overlooking Mount Mansfield, it's a great spot to catch the sunset. If you're in the mood for a night hike, there is nothing like watching a sunset at the top of a mountain. But be prepared and bring head lamps for the hike down because it gets very dark very fast.
