A bar with a sense of history, PJ Clarke's opened in 1868 and quickly became the stuff of New York legend. It was the setting for Billy Wilder's adaption of The Lost Weekend. Nat King Cole swore by their cheeseburgers. Frank Sinatra had a private table here. Joan Crawford and former New York governor Hugh Carey were regulars. More than once, Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis brought John-John and Caroline here for Saturday lunch. But amazingly, the quality of the drinks and the food never slipped. Although it was shuttered for a short period in the early '00s, the bacon cheeseburgers are as delicious as ever and the martinis are still strong.
