In the heart of Córdoba and with an authentic Sevillian flavor, this is one of the best of the former town houses being recycled into small boutique hotels of charm and grace. A 17th-century colonial-style house has been turned into a little government-rated two-star inn with modern comforts, such as private bathrooms. As a surprising feature, the house still has its original subterranean rooms with vaulted ceilings. On the main floors, much of the wholesale renovations of 1934 remain with a central courtyard decorated with beautiful tiles -- hence, the name
"azulejos," meaning tiles. The bedrooms, midsize to spacious, are brightly and comfortably decorated, often with antiques, each opening onto the central courtyard. A few Latin American touches can be found, especially from Mexico, as evidenced by the on-site cantina serving south-of-the-border specialties.
