Frommer's Very Highly Recommended

This is one of the best government-rated three-star hotels. Set within a few steps from the entrance to the Mezquita, it's the kind of place that probably deserves a four-star government rating, and that might indeed receive one during the lifetime of this edition. The result of the radical overhaul of an antique building, this is a lovely enclave of Andalusian tilework set out in geometrical patterns, a splashing fountain, a friendly, hardworking staff, and an appealing mix of old-fashioned mudéjar-inspired touches and modern comforts. Bedrooms are clean, streamlined, sunny, and comfortable, each with a writing table, medium-to-large-size bathrooms, and lots of glossily polished stone and marble. As you might expect, a marble portrait bust of the hotel's namesake, the Arabic philosopher and mathematician Maimónides (1135-1204), accents a corner of the lobby.
