The Rooms

The typically upscale Western décor of the rooms--sometimes imbued with traditional Korean elements--may not complete with the ultramodern interiors in some of Seoul’s latest hotels, but it is in their attention to each guest’s comfort level that Grand InterContinental Seoul trumps the others. Each room, for instance, comes with a menu of five different pillows according to firmness and support, and if you stay in one of the Club InterContinental rooms (located between 26th and 33rd floors), you will also be provided with an option of a thick and plush featherbed for extra comfort. This hotel certainly knows that at the end of the day, what every traveler really needs is a good night’s sleep.

The Service

Natural friendliness and a high level of professional service have come to define many upscale properties in East Asia. But as seasoned travelers to the region would agree, these qualities are often cut short by miscommunication. Most of the six restaurants on the premises offer rather standard hotel fare, and it is no secret that travelers to Seoul should just hit the streets to encounter and experience the world of wonderfully pungent and piquant Korean food. The only exception is Grand Kitchen, which proves to be a surprisingly great place to enjoy a weekend buffet lunch. With a truly international selection of superbly prepared dishes on offer, one can easily see why this place has been for many years one of the most popular spots among discerning denizens of Seoul for familiar gatherings. Given that, the place can get a little crowded at times, but such a bustling ambience is exactly what characterizes one of the fastest-developing cities in the world. The adjacent bakery is also famed for its selection of authentic bread and baked goods.
