We were distraught when we heard the old Limelight was falling to the bulldozer in 2006, but our spirits were immediately lifted when we heard about the plans for the new one that will go up in the same quiet spot near downtown Aspen. Due to reopen in early 2008, the property is trading its mom-and-pop looks for a slick, classic-meets-contemporary facade, sheathing larger rooms spread over four stories. Dale Paas, whose family has owned the motel since 1958, is committed to sustainable design, and the new project is a model of green architecture and design. While we'll have to wait until 2008 to see how it plays out completely, we've been so happy with the Limelight over the years that we expect the property to continue to offer one of the best values in town.
