I fell in love with the history and character of this three-story Edwardian gentleman's town house (ca. 1901) the minute I walked in the door. Four rooms here -- two with en-suite bathrooms, two with shared bathroom -- are riddled with charm. The Batten Suite (once home to legendary pilot Jean Batten's father) is the best and biggest. John and Susan Sweetman have an astonishing collection of historic Auckland photographs, and the numerous Persian rugs and colonial antiques make this place a feast for the eye and a home away from home. It's the only upmarket B&B in the Central Business District and it's just a short walk from trendy High Street, downtown activities, restaurants, and transport systems.
