In the heart of the city, opposite the main post office, this building began life in 1902 when it was constructed as an apartment house. In the 1960s it was turned into a hotel. After growing tired and seedy, it was given a new lease on life in 2006, and we're recommending it for the first time. Today a Best Western, it offers rooms in two different categories -- standard doubles or superior or deluxe doubles. It also has some of the best suite accommodations in Innsbruck. Some of its imperial architectural grandeur from the turn-of-the-20th-century remains, but everything has been modernized with all the latest gadgets. Its most elegant grace note is its Winter Garden Restaurant, serving a first-rate cuisine. The public rooms are imbued with an Art Nouveau style, and all the bedrooms, ranging from midsize to spacious, have fine furnishings, using high-quality fabrics. Each unit comes with a completely restored modern bathroom with tub and shower, as befits a government-rated four-star hotel. Even if we don't stay here, we like to drop into the on-site Café-Bar Advokat for some of the city's most decadent homemade pastries.
