The setting is a gracefully proportioned 100-year-old villa, located in a residential suburb within a 20-minute walk southwest of Salzburg's historic core, across the Salzach River from the city's center. Sheathed with ocher-colored stucco and flanked with roses that climb over wrought-iron supports and a small garden, it's small-scale, personalized, conservative, and a bit sleepy. Bedrooms are more lavish than you'd expect, with wooden floors, theatrical draperies, deep upholsteries, and a decor that you might have expected in a conservative and well-mannered private home. Some have four-poster beds draped with fabric, and in some cases, the bathrooms are unusually plush. Regardless of the category of the room you opt for, all bathrooms have tub/shower combinations. Other than breakfast, no meals are served here. Be warned in advance that the reception facilities of this quiet hotel are completely closed after 9pm, so time your arrival accordingly.
