Harbour Island's most respected chef, an Ohio-native gastronomic genius with a résumé which includes catering for Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, rents a duet of well-decorated rooms within her private home. Susan Neff, once the full-time chef at Coral Sands and now partially retired, offers good value within her neat-as-a-pin private villa, a short walk from Romora Bay Resort near the island's southern end. Surrounded with lush landscaping and flowering shrubs, the house, rebuilt to her specifications in 1999, boasts a panoramic cupola, comfortable beds, private bathrooms, and the benefit of Chef Neff's years of experience as a professional nurse, hospice counselor, and professional chef. Though it lacks the hands-on services of a private hotel, many guests return year after year at rates significantly less expensive than what's being charged for comparable accommodations in any of the island hotels. Each unit has a very small private patio. February sojourns are usually booked a full year in advance, so plan ahead.
