This formal and exclusive colony of cottages is the quintessentially elegant hideaway, with 3.2 hectares (8 acres) of well-manicured grounds along the island's legendary 5km (3-mile) pink-sand beach. It's not as elaborate or sleek as its nearest rival, Pink Sands, but it's cozier, although in a bit of a state of decline, though extensive renovations did bring some of the units up to standard with huge showers and whirlpool tubs. The Bahamian-style bungalows attractively combine traditional furnishings and tropical accessories, with no phones or TVs to distract you. The Dunmore's heyday may have come and gone, but the feeling here is still dignified, comfortable, and pleasant. Breakfast is offered on a garden terrace under pine trees with a view of the beach. Dinner is served at one sitting between 7 and 8:30pm; men should wear jackets (ties are optional). Bahamian and international cuisine is served in a formal dining room with a high ceiling, louvered doors, expensive china, and windows with views over the blue Atlantic. A clubhouse is the focal point for socializing, while a living room, library, and ocean-view bar provide additional cozy nooks.
