Right in the heart of the busy Sukhumvit Road area, the JW Marriott is a huge, black marble hive of action, with great eats, a fine spa, and unparalleled convenience. Business travelers love it, for its extensive executive services and efficient staff, but it tends to be emptier over the year-end holidays -- giving vacationers an opportunity to enjoy its luxuries without paying a premium. Perfect as it is for shopping along Sukhumvit Road, and close to Nana BTS, Marriott's only drawback (for single women especially) is that it's slap bang in the heart of the go-go club zone, which attracts drunk or unsavory characters late at night. The hotel's dining choices include a casual -- but top quality -- delicatessen and cafe, renowned steakhouse, and downstairs an amazing contemporary Japanese dining duo, Tsu and Nami. The 16th floor health club is popular, with a pleasant outdoor pool that lends an urban oasis feel in this rather gritty part of town. Upper floors of the hotel overlook the busy Nana area and Sukhumvit Road. Rooms are tastefully upmarket with famously soft beds, handy desk space, and large marble bathrooms with a separate shower and large bathtub. Suites are vast. Service is swift and helpful. A bonus is the fact that the tollway serving both Bangkok airports is right on the doorstep.
