Stay at this sophisticated, relaxing hideaway if you want to retreat from the world. You can only reach the resort by boat. This private, romantic property is the classiest place on the island -- Bitter End is more family-oriented and Little Dix Bay more of a conventional resort. Biras Creek stands at the northern end of Virgin Gorda on a 60-hectare (148-acre) estate with its own marina, and occupies a narrow neck of land flanked by the sea on three sides. In the autumn of 2006, the resort changed owners and received a considerable upgrade. All the attractive, tropically decorated units have well-furnished bedrooms, private patios, and garden showers. There are no TVs in the rooms, but who needs TV when you have the luxury of an oceanview veranda? Guests get their own bikes for their stay, and there are lots of hiking trails near the property. Some rooms even have iPod docks and sound systems. The fitness center and restaurant have also received upgrades, as well as the available watersports equipment. The resort now has several Boston Whalers boats free for guests to take for 2-hour snorkeling trips to remote coves and beaches nearby. The hotel restaurant is a longtime favorite, and the open-air bar is quietly elegant. There's always a table with a view. The food has won high praise, and the wine list is excellent. A barbecued lunch is served on the beach.
