It takes a special talent to transform a tiny 19th-century double-story Victorian semidetached house into a chic "African-Zen" boutique-style guesthouse, but this is exactly what owners Louis and Jimmy have achieved, through skillfully reworking spaces, using a clever mix of ethnic and modern furniture, and offsetting muted modern tones and earthy textures with playful touches of vivid color. The combination of style, good value, and a very warm and welcoming environment has proven a winning formula, so much so that the two adjoining terrace homes are now part of the Villa, offering a wonderful warren of public spaces -- beautifully dressed, of course -- all leading to a lovely outdoor area with plunge pool and timber loungers. The rooms on the second floor are marginally preferable to those on the ground, but it is the three suites, each with doors that lead to the Victorian balcony overlooking the street, that are the ones to go for. The greatest drawback is its sheer popularity. Located within walking distance of restaurants.
