Selected for
Condé Nast Traveller UK's Gold List, this gracious heritage property has expansive views of the densely forested eastern slopes of Table Mountain behind it, and the valley and mountains towering above False Bay in front. A genteel hotel that would suit older travelers looking for an out-of-town alternative to the Mount Nelson, it is also an oasis of sorts, but traveling to town or the seaboard can be a hassle. Antique furnishings and original artworks adorn the original Hohenort manor house; this is also where the best rooms are. All rooms are comfortably furnished with floral fabrics adorning the king-size or twin beds; some rooms have been refurbished with a more modern look. Considerable pluses are the beautifully manicured 3.6-hectare (9-acre) garden and the dining. Chefs Lionel Lavat and Martha Williams work wonders -- this is, after all, a Relais & Châteaux member, and well deserving of this distinction:
The Greenhouse is considered one of the best options in fine dining in a gorgeous setting, while the
Cape Malay Kitchen serves an excellent introduction to regional cuisine.
