Situated off Kloof Street (the "restaurant strip") on the outskirts of the city (a 5-min. walk to the center), and furnished with an eclectic selection of Art Deco and 1950s pieces (clearly a passion for owner Arthur Bisig), the Fritz Hotel remains a real bargain. Ask for room no. 6, 7, 12, or 14; these open onto the first-floor veranda, with room nos. 6 and 14 by far the biggest. Each of the patio suites on the ground floor has a small garden area. Room no. 11 is small but has a great view of Table Mountain from the bed. Breakfasts and drinks are served in the courtyard, which -- like the whole hotel -- has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.
