A hidden gem, the Hotel Cass is tucked just 2 blocks off the Magnificent Mile, within easy walking distance of shopping, restaurants, and far-more-expensive luxury hotels. Space may be at a premium here -- the check-in area and lobby-lounge are fairly compact -- but everything is bright and stylish. The rooms are quite small (in some, there's barely room for the flatscreen TVs, which are mounted on mechanical arms that reach over the bed), and some only have views of the building next door. But the beds are soft and comfortable, with masses of pillows (helpfully labeled "soft" and "firm"), and bathrooms tuck stylish amenities like rectangular sinks into a compact space. A bonus for budget-conscious travelers: the complimentary buffet breakfast, which includes eggs, bacon, and decadently delicious cinnamon rolls.
