Owned and operated by the Koehler family since 1970, this comfortable, homey place features a vintage sign with the mug of a grinning bunny, a designated historic landmark that's served as Steamboat's welcome mat for more than a half-century. The motel's original 10 rooms (and the sign) were built in 1952, with additional units added through 1991, some of which overlook the Yampa River. Completely remodeled in the mid-1990s, all rooms are clean and comfortable. Even the smallest rooms (which, at 224 sq. ft., are definitely tiny) have attractive cherry furnishings. The larger rooms are a more-than-comfortable 425 square feet. The motel is conveniently located on the east end of the downtown shopping district, with the river behind, Yampa River Park next door, and the hot springs pool across the street (discount passes are available), and on the local free shuttle bus route. All rooms have a microwave and refrigerator; some have private balconies. A good bargain for families is the meeting room, which doubles as a big suite (albeit a noisy one, being on the street), complete with a full kitchen for $79 a night.
