Beginning in mid-2008, this place will begin a major transformation into a swank and modern resort-condo-hotel complex. The work, however, should take a year or more to complete, and the current hotel is expected to run as normal in the interim. For now, the rooms at this beachside hotel are all quite large and have white-tile floors and high ceilings and get plenty of natural light. El Coquito also has a small kidney-shaped pool and ample grounds planted with coconut palms and other shade trees. The open-air restaurant is popular with guests and locals alike. When you hit the beach at Matapalo, turn right, and the hotel will be about a block or so north.
