This late-2005 addition to Delhi's five-star high-rise hotel scene still gleams with polished marble and sparkling chandeliers, giving it the advantage of freshness, evident not only in the pleasant, contemporary design (which makes good use of space and light) but also in the demeanor of the staff. There's a lively buzz almost everywhere in the hotel, making it seem less pretentious than some of the city's more established luxury hotels. Most guest rooms enjoy great views of the city; the higher up you go, the more intriguing the city scene through the window -- ask for a "Parliament View" if you'd like to see a greener Delhi. Deluxe rooms start on the 12th floor; they're carpeted and dressed in earthy tones, and feel spacious compared to that of many other large city hotels. Horizon rooms are on higher (17th and 18th) floors and are priciest, but come with a host of amenities, including access to the 19th-floor lounge, airport pickup, breakfast, and cocktail hour. What we like best here is probably the gorgeous pan-Asian restaurant, 19 Oriental Avenue, which is not only beautiful to look at, but features two live kitchens and hard-working kimono-clad waitresses. Outdoor areas, although small, include a fabulous pool surrounded by trees. Facilities: 2 restaurants; bar; lobby lounge-bar; pastry shop; pool; health club; spa; indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis; steam; sauna; travel services; limousine service; business center; shopping arcade; salon; 24-hr. room service; Ayurvedic massage; babysitting; laundry; doctor-on-call.
