The Experience

Straddling the top of Park Lane, within walking distance of Buckingham Palace and Bond Street, the InterContinental London Park Lane is a refreshing breath of modernity in Mayfair. Renovated in 2007, there’s a crisp contemporary feel to this eight-floor hotel that doesn’t vibe just another InterContinental. With extras like an Elemis Spa that caters to busy guests with 15-minute recharging treatments; the Cookbook Café, an interactive eatery where diners can help prepare their meal at cooking stations; and award-winning chef Theo Randall’s eponymous restaurant, there are plenty of alluring in-house options—even with the best of London right around the corner.

The Rooms

Designed with business travelers in mind, the contemporary-chic rooms function beautifully--there’s no searching for extra outlets for Blackberry-charging or somewhere to blow-dry your hair. The floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to the Duke of Wellington’s residence at Apsley House and Buckingham Palace, remind that you’re in the heart of glorious Central London.

The Service

You won’t wait long for a bucket of ice or a corkscrew to be delivered to your room, but know that this is a good-sized hotel, and during peak check-in and check-out hours you could experience a line.

The Highlights

With destination restaurants (Theo Randall was named Italian Restaurant of the Year by the 2008 London Restaurant Awards), extensive meeting rooms and an event space that accommodates almost 800, this hotel is bustling. So don’t be surprised if the paparazzi is assembled outside when it hosts an awards party. Book a suite, and you’ll be welcome at the Club InterContinental, an airy seventh floor lounge that includes a business center, complimentary meal presentations (including a classic English breakfast buffet) and a generous cocktail hour where the champagne flows freely and nibbles include foie gras on toast and baby crab cakes. Non-suite guests can access the club with a daily supplement, which costs approximately $145.
