Campeggio Michelangelo

Back in the good old days of yore, when my family was wont to do "Europe on $5 a Day in an Ugly Orange VW Camper-van," this was our Florentine parking spot
de choix. Here we could sleep with a select 1,000 of our fellow campers and have almost the same vista that the tour buses get up above on Piazzale Michelangiolo. (Sadly, a stand of trees blocks the Duomo.) Of course, you're packed in like sardines on this small plateau with very little shade (in Aug, arrive early to fight for a spot along the tree-lined fringe), but you get a bar, a minimart, a laundromat, and that killer view.
