When this hotel in Glasgow's Central Station first opened in the 1880s, it was perhaps the grandest the city had ever seen and subsequent guests included Churchill and JFK. In 2006, another refurbishment costing £3 million ($5.5 million) revamped the hotel's leisure center, restaurants, bars, reception and overnight rooms. Traditionalists are likely to take a shine to its historic attributes: whether the baronial, highly polished wooden staircase or the elaborate Victorian cornices and pilasters. The guest rooms, with high ceilings and large windows, now have interactive TVs and modernized facilities.
