The 2006 earthquake (in which the entire chimney collapsed), coupled with years of neglect, has left this once-grande dame in a state of sadly needing renovations and general sprucing up. As we went to press, the management had no plans beyond the necessary repairs from the fallen chimney, but they have put the historic inn up for sale. Hopefully, the new owners will restore this once-fabulous B&B back to its original glory. Although once a fabulous place to stay (it's completely off the tourist trail), this historic 1915 Gothic home, on a quiet residential street near the University of Hawaii, needs some more work before we can give it our full endorsement. However, if you have your heart set on staying in an inn on the National Register of Historic Places, you will find the rooms charming, complete with antiques, old-fashioned rose wallpaper, and king-size koa beds. The three top-floor rooms share a full bathroom; the others have private bathrooms. Cottage bathrooms feature old-style tubs as well as separate modern showers.
