Once the quarters for the U.S. CIA and later for the army, this hotel's edifice recalls a Soviet-era post office. But its interior is another story. The lobby, with a colonial period flavor and Art Deco details, is gorgeous and welcoming. The rooms are quite comfortable, and the amenities -- including the many fine-dining outlets, popular Irish pub Mulligan's, and extensive fitness center -- rival any in town. Here's the drawback: Though it's just 10 minutes from the airport, the hotel is in Phu Nhuan District and some 15 minutes from town. Shuttles and taxis are consistent, but traffic can be hellish and you might feel distanced from the action. Still, there are many perks: Rooms are comfortable and well equipped, done in a somewhat formal but immaculate decor. The executive floor has a small business center, in-room faxes, broadband hookup, and a particularly elegant lounge. The Mövenpick Hotel Saigon is most popular for Asian travelers and businessmen.
