In 1996 the Istanbul Sheraton morphed into the Ceylan Inter-Continental, making way for yet another luxury five-star hotel. Unfortunately, the existing concrete-and-glass exterior didn't change its shape in the process. But structures like these are meant to please the eye from the inside, and that it does. The central glass-and-marble staircase sets the stage for just the right amount of pomp for the hotel's international clientele.
