This is one of those new boutique hotels. The four-story building located just below the ancient retaining wall of the Hippodrome is fresh and welcoming. Rooms retain either the original parquet or laminate, and an unobjectionable vanilla-pudding-colored paper covers the walls. Half of the rooms have bathtubs, which is a rarity on this side of town, and every window in the place is double-glazed, whether it needs it or not (it really doesn't, unless you haven't gotten the hang of sleeping through that dawn call to prayer). The manager made a point of mentioning that the building was reconstructed in compliance with Istanbul's new earthquake code, a fact I'm not sure made me feel better or not. Pay an additional 15€ ($18/£11) and you'll get a sea-view room.
