The sister property of the Marmara Istanbul hit the ground running in 2005. It occupies a tower flanked by the Pera Palas Hotel and one of my favorite restaurants, Lokanta, in the heart of the more vibrant section of Beyoglu. And in spite of its 200 rooms, the hotel actually feels like a boutique property, as spaces are kept to manageable scale and the decor is understatedly trendy. The architect even saved the original tile paving where possible. Splurge the extra 50€ ($70/£36) or so for a sea-view room; it'll be worth it. There's a patisserie, bar, and restaurant on the ground floor, plus the independently-owned contemporary-style Mikla restaurant on the top floors commanding the best views.
