Set on the coastal road just outside the commercial center of Falmouth, immediately adjacent to the also-recommended Glistening Waters, this is a well-designed roadside inn that might remind you of a pub-hotel in Britain. Much attention is devoted to the woodsy-looking restaurant, where main courses at lunch cost from US$5 to US$26 (£2.50-£13) and dinners range from US$16 to US$40 (£8-£20); menu items include filet mignon, stir-fried beef with soy and oriental herbs, and chicken breast stuffed with cheese and chopped callaloo. Despite its appeal as a restaurant, there's an interesting hotel configuration here as well: It includes a swimming pool set in a concrete wharf jutting into the waters of the phosphorescent bay, a gazebo-style pool bar, and a walkway and wooden pier accessing the bedrooms -- which are built on pilings above the sea. Each of these has a private veranda or patio, white tile floors, white-painted furniture, and a sense of low-key coziness that only a small, intimately organized hotel can convey.
