If you have to be directly on a great beach, this place isn't for you, but if you want to escape the more impersonal all-inclusives like the Sandals clones in favor of a more authentic Jamaican experience, then check in here. On a thin strip of white-sand beach, this 12-hectare (30-acre) resort stands along the north-coast highway 14km (9 miles) east of the airport. On a former sugar plantation, the hotel abuts the 200-year-old home of the legendary White Witch of Rose Hall, now a historic site. The seven-story H-shaped structure features a large, attractive lobby on the ground floor; upstairs, all the guest rooms have sea views and designer furniture and come with a small private balcony. The tiled bathrooms with tubs and showers are well maintained, with granite countertops, newer plumbing fixtures, and Bath & Body Works amenities. The hotel's six restaurants are good but not sublime.
