Recently renamed (it used to be the Laromme Hotel), this 1980s hotel was originally slated to be a skyscraper, but public pressure demanded it be redesigned as a low-rise that would not clash with the city's skyline. The result is an interesting structure set at the edge of Liberty Bell Park (a plus for guests with children) and built around a balconied atrium lobby; the public areas were last renovated in 1999. As the Laromme, this hotel had a good reputation for service. Rooms come in two sizes; the larger (Maximum) rooms are spacious, with luxurious bathrooms, and cost about $50 additional for a double. There are 14 well-appointed suites. All rooms are light, airy, and have well-designed contemporary furnishings. There are rooms for travelers with disabilities. There are three kosher in-house restaurants, including the new and inventive Sophia. The outdoor pool is covered with an air balloon and heated for winter swimming.
