Opened in 2000, this large eight-story structure represents a new generation of Jerusalem hotels aimed at package and group tours. Public areas evoke traditional Jerusalem and are built around a stone-walled atrium (with an olive tree as its centerpiece); architectural touches include arabesque windows and reproductions of Herodian doorways and columns. In the mode of ancient travelers' khans or inns (which were also built around courtyards), hotel guests are greeted with olive oil, zatar (local spices), and bread when they check in at reception. At times, especially when groups arrive, staff will be garbed in "biblical" costumes and will include fortunetellers and other exotic "personnel." Rooms, though comfortable and relatively new, are not memorable; some are equipped for travelers with disabilities. You're within walking distance of East Jerusalem's restaurants and the Old City, but it's a taxi ride or a very long walk to the downtown center of West Jerusalem. The dining here is kosher.
