The Experience

One of just six Auberge Resort properties, world renowned for out-pampering even the most jaded five-star habitue, this oceanfront Cabo retreat spared no expense during its 2007 renovation, and attracts guests willing to vacation in a similar mindset. Surprisingly Mexican for the Anglo-sized destination of Cabo San Lucas (basically an extension of San Diego), clusters of boxy, minimalist, freestanding villas have majestic, traditional palm-thatched roofs. Though once inside your cavernous room, you’ll have every modern luxury as well as spectacular views out over the tumultuous Sea of Cortez.

The Rooms

As you might expect at these rates, each oversized guest room has an ocean view, Prate si linens, tub and showers built for two and a terrace with inviting twin hammocks. Decor is contemporary stone and polished plaster works with light woods and custom textiles. Rustic elements, like original paintings, sculptures and pottery by Mexican artists, and traditional painted floor tiles are offset by state of the art technology including an entertainment center, wifi and iPod docks; palapa-level rooms feature infinity edge whirlpools and floor-to ceiling sliding glass doors. Since the renovation completed in January 2008, the new star is a 2,000-sqaure-foot penthouse with panoramic views and a private elevator entrance so you need never mingle or be seen by other guests.

The Service

With Auberge Resorts, the Californian idea of luxury may translate into décor so understated it almost fades into the background, but they more than impress with the highest levels of service. The staff will know who you are, and they're accustomed to demanding guests with special requests—feel free to test them. Beachgoers are spoiled with their signature popsicles, Evian misters and fresh fruit throughout the day. Suites also include 24-hour butler service.

The Highlights

The coastal desert provides sandy dunes and sea bluffs, perfect for a wide variety of activities including ATV rides, surfing and deep-sea fishing; access to four golf courses is coordinated by the golf concierge. Don't miss the Spa, considered by some to be one of the best in all of Latin America. An expanded treatment menu includes signature Baja Lime-based treatments and a new Passion de la Noche program that allows couples to relax and reconnect in the spa after hours. If you don’t make it to the spa, the smell of Esperanza’s own natural, organic essential oil bath products in-room are enough for a lasting memory.
