The Experience

It seems like every hotel is selling itself as a “romantic get-away” these days, but La Casa Que Canta ("the house that sings") deserves the title. The secluded suites make this place feel more like a fabulous Mexican hacienda than a hotel, and couples tend to stay in their private villas for days at a time. Sitting cliffside among La Casa's adobe-style buildings, you'd think the water just goes on forever. After all, you're looking out past the terraced swimming pools, which create a property-wide infinity effect over La Ropa beach and Zihuatanejo Bay beyond.

The Rooms

Each of the suites is one-of-a-kind, but all are big, airy spaces that remain authentically Mexican, with tile floors, local artwork and hand-painted furniture. Forget about TVs—you wouldn't want one anyway since every suite has both a living room terrace and bedroom balcony that open onto water-filled vistas. Of course, there's always a perk for upgrading; here, it's private plunge pools and hammocks that come with 10 of the larger suites. Recent additions include four suite villas with plunge pools along with butler and chef.

The Service

Thanks to the hotel's relatively small size and large, very friendly staff, there's never a time you're lacking for anything (especially since complimentary water, soft drinks and beer are stocked in your mini-fridge daily). But because many of the guests are couples (and predominately honeymooners), the staff tends to stay behind the scenes, slipping in and out of your room for special touches like flower petals arranged at turndown.

The Highlights

You won't be lacking for activities: Zihuatanejo is famous for sport fishing, with yellowfin tuna and marlin among the offerings, and expeditions can be arranged through the hotel. But why leave? The khaki shorts-wearing crowd at the restaurant may not be the most chic, but the spectacular vistas of town and bay make at least a few meals there worthwhile. The resort's centerpiece is that beautiful infinity pool; there's also a saltwater pool closer to the shore with a waterfall and Jacuzzi. If you can drag yourself away from them, the spa (while small) is particularly good for deep massage.
